                                                        The Art of Professional Writing I
                                                        Every company wants to present a professional image to its customers or clients. No matter how vital and informative a message may be, its credibility is damaged by basic writing errors. This seminar teaches you how to fix six of the most common grammar errors: sentence fragments, comma splices, run-on sentences, subject/verb disagreement, subject/pronoun disagreement, and improper pronoun form. (4 hours)

                                                        The Art of Professional Writing II
                                                        Add to the skills you developed in The Art of Professional Writing I. Learn advanced techniques and subtleties that will make your documents stand out from the crowd. These include how to place commas correctly, avoid dangling and misplaced modifiers, make lists parallel, avoid active and passive voice, choose proper words and avoid redundancy and wordiness. (4 hours).

                                                        Having good grammar skills isn't enough. For readers to understand your documents, paragraphs must be unified and coherent. This seminar explains how to develop sequence in a paragraph, how to revise for clarity, conciseness, and fluency, and how to adjust your tone for maximum reader appeal. (2 hours)

                                                        Are your receivables past due? Maybe your collection letters are being ignored. Collection letters follow a specific pattern. The first letter starts off politely; with each successive letter, the tone becomes a little more aggressive. Use the tips provided with this series of six collection letters to make your collections process effective. (4 hours)

                                                        Because of their busy schedules, readers need to find what they need in a document quickly and easily. This means knowing how to define your audience and its needs and ensuring your document is written to that audience. In addition to those skills, participants will learn how to brainstorm, plan and schedule projects, and understanding the collaborative writing process. (4 hours)

                                                        Producing a readable document means having an appealing page layout. This seminar shows writers the elements thereof and guidelines for formatting pages, including use of white space, making lists, use of typefaces, highlighting for emphasis and appeal, using headings, and using warnings and cautions, placing visuals, using tables and figures, and managing visual revision control. (1 day)

                                                        Any document requires the technical writer to do his/her homework. The accuracy of the output depends on the quality of the research the writer has done. To produce a topnotch document, a technical writer must have first-class data-gathering skills. This seminar teaches participants how to gather information from written sources, interview experts, summarize information, and create an outline. (1 day)

                                                        Writing Impressive Reports
                                                        Reports present ideas and facts to decision-makers. To be convincing, they must be professionally written and backed up. This seminar teaches the parts of a report, the differences between an abstract and an executive summary, and how to document your sources. (1 day)

                                                        Usability is the key to whether or not instruction manuals will be successful. This seminar teaches participants the four criteria for effective user documents, how to avoid the three classes of errors, how to determine what types of manuals are needed, how to research needed information, and how to organize a manual for maximum efficiency.                                                         Companies spend a lot of money developing proposals¾ money that is wasted if the proposal doesn't win. Included are segments on dealing with Requests for Proposals (RFPs), types of proposals, planning a proposal, writing a problem statement, implementing a solution, writing the personnel background information, developing a budget, writing an executive summary and writing a transmittal letter. (1 day)

Overlooking this important step can cost your company projects and dollars. This seminar teaches participants how to understand the document review process, schedule and manage a review cycle, understand how to perform the different types of reviews, and be aware of the common problems that can interfere with the review process.

                                                        Polishing Your Editing Skills I and II
                                                        The editorial role comprises more than just checking a document for grammar and punctuation. This seminar teaches editors how to budget for and schedule a project, how to work with outside writers and illustrators, how to edit for content. In addition, participants will learn the importance of copy-editing and proofreading; working with designers; commissioning artwork and photographs; and preparing a master camera-ready copy for printing; the differences in printing processes; selecting paper, and types of bindings. (1 day or 4 hours each) 

                                                        Polishing Your Oral Presentation Skills
                                                        People's number one fear is giving oral presentations. This seminar teaches participants the skills to overcome those fears. Topics covered include developing the presentation, preparing overheads/slides, assessing the location, overcoming nervousness and distractions, and creating a rapport with the audience. (1 day)
